has anyone fished the boro stretch lately.its been yrs since I fished it,it was never prolific but held some gd chub around the 3lb mark.only place I ever caught them was were the pipe goes over, rite across to the far bank on the pole at 10-11mtrs.could only ever catch them on caster mind the minnows were a mare.had some gd brownies odd grayling at the top limit were it shallows on the bend and huge gonks.some days you'd sit there biteless all day until the last hour of lite.parking is the main prob now down there wnt even let you go through the gate now but just fancy it for a daft few hours one day.
ive had some decent chub and dace bags further up downstream of the bridge beyond kirkleatham yrs back and seen some nice roach, but mainly small brownies and the odd cracking rainbow turns up stocked at skutterskelf water splash at hutton rudby by lord crathorn and skutterskelf angling club.
got caught there as a kid poaching that bitt not gd getting caught with 7 beautiful rainbow stuck in ya wicker basket by a guy called garbutt Johnson who's still kicking about.gd friends ov mikes who has dale view.
always looked fishless and lifeless, wasnt until I caught a few chub that I explored it more really, might be worth a throw see what turns up if anything.

Walked it last year before fishing the thornaby / yarm stretch. It appeared dead with no sign of fish, didn't like the colour either. Not to say they aren't there, but there was no sign of life when I stood and watched.

its a strange one jim.it was like that as a kid aswell were as below the pool was teaming with fish.upper reaches are stuffed with trout and odd grayling rite through little Ayton all the way down to kirklevington and the signs are there to see.as soon as it deepens up seems barron.might hold a few surprise fish be tough finding them like and prob well and truly on naturals.might be worth prebaiting a few times in some fishy looking overhangs cos theres plenty of them along boro stretch before dropping a bait in.

There are a fair few more grayling to go at now as Hutton angling are stocking them I understand. I went just a bit upstream of boros bit and roved the place with lobworm, which you would have though would at least get me a trout, but no, nothing caught.

It's a place I'll be trying again, but probably during the close season, just worming for trout or on the fly.

ile give it a go last knockins one day I think and do the above first.reckon if there is any chub still around they gonna be tough cookies to catch.used to have loads ov dace yrs back wonder why such a decline.sure I heard it got polluted somewere along its lengh a few yrs back.
often wonderd why boro keep it on really, money could be spent elsewere.saying that prob getting it for free cant see another club taking it on.nice little stretch aswell just access is pants.

I'm still not 100% sure where to park. That new estate doesn't welcome visitors!! And there's little place to park on the main road.

There's plenty of dace downstream of the weir mark. But don't think you can fish it now.

used to park in the gate on the left as you went over the bridge enough for 5 cars but they stopped it.last time I fished it had to park top of the bank and walk down from pub carpark.was dodgy as hell pulling out of the gate like well blind.waste of a gd water the weir pool was one of me fav winter venues.

only bitt I know were your not restricted and no signs is down the foxrush.just before you get to the top of the bank theres a path that leads down past the old chalets and access to river.no one has the rites along there either just awkward fishing.a lot of dog walkers use it.not been down since it was flooded but path comes out below what we called sandy bottoms or the second pool below the weir were it all collapsed.

There's a couple of lads come in the shop, one of them was in last weekend, have been going on Middlesbrough's bit of the Leven. They've been fishing near the bridge catching a few Dace, the odd trout and the very odd Grayling. They've been trying those 'famous' Chub pegs around the pipe but no success yet, was always better with an extra foot in or so for those Chub to have a go!

there must be a decent population of fish in there then for them to breed.thoughs chub will be deceased now that I used to catch they were pretty batterd when I was catching em 25-30 yrs ago.wouldnt be a bad idea to restock this bottom end.but there again don't think it gets a lot of interest.just somewere local dale really for a few daft hours.last person I seen catch 2 was baz hermo bout 15 yrs back, same spot aswell.

went for a look around leven this morning for an hour, got there for just after first light.thought it best to see if there was anything moving.was a bloke already fishing, not a peg ide have chosen mind and it wasn't producing for him either.he said he was fishing it because he had been fishing two pegs away the wk before and witnessed what he thought was a pike rolling and splashing on the surface a few times.not witnessed any there myself ever but who am I to judge, they may well be.i said you sure it wasn't a chub rolling, seemed to know what he was talking about mind said it was far to long to be a chub and he'd caught a few chub a few wks back after 4 attempts and 3 blanks.
talked about a few lads last wk getting grayling odd ones/trout and a few dace.maybe it just needs a few more anglers baits going in.always was a tough place to fish.asked him if there was any gonks left they used to be huge in there, but reply'd he never had any for yrs.his name was Kenny, oldish fella bout 70.he parked on the verge just after were the gate was.deffo worth a go I think.almost tempted to come back grab me rod and av a go for a few hours, but decided against it.gd to know there's still a few fish in there though.a little overgrown but you can deffo see were its been fished.cut throughs grass and a few flat patches against the bank.
