I was getting a lot of interest from the chub yesterday.one managed to hook itself but wasn't really tackled for them.might be worth a trip if chubs your thing this time of yr if your licenced.should do well on the trotting gear.i was fishing long hairs for the bules so was getting the wacks just about every cast on pellet and corn.got talking to the only guy there and he assures me there barbell after catching a few days previous, although we didn't connect with any yesterday.theres a scattering,i only baited two swims up and stuck to thoughs.water level and flow increased dramatically around 8.30-9.00 and even the chub wernt playing ball.loads of little dace shoals around aswell.

nxt stretch to maunby mick and runs onto gatenby.
maunby is going to be my nxt trip out,un less mozz fancy's the wharfe we'v been talking about doing wharfe then nidd.maunby ok for a few hours on the evening but like pickhill theres barbell but not easy to find.maunby all the swims look alike narrow channels in between the willows on both banks.produced some really big fish in the past but I am going back to when I fished matches on there and odd ones turned up in the match weights.
these places are all alien to me atleast for the past ten yrs or so and they have changed very little, just not sure on fish popularity now.there was a huge head of bules ones over at leaming on the gatenby stretch but I'm going back to my preston park days and I was wippa snappa then.
get fed up of fishing the same stretches of the swale, becomes easy once you know were they live.last night was just a fish and hope you get one ordeal.would have been nice but ile be back to try again, that rise in gin clear water didn't do me or the other guy any favours.mad when your getting bangs then everything just stops dead.
besides all that its a stunning piece of river, just the cows and car licking I'm not fond of.and o yes if you do go make sure you got an ice scraper and watch the tracks you drive down.the tracktor uses the same route and it leaves very deep tracks,so most of the time you have to drive one wheel on 1 wheel off,not good when its dark as I found out.but you can drive along the storm bank to your peg.

you could certainely have some fun with the silvers and a bigger bend when a chub snaffles your bait.some lovely sections to wade n trot and its almost all coverd in willows, lovely to trot a float along.almost wish I had stuck a float rod in.

Richmond is really good tasker, some beautiful stretches to go at.
I've been tempted by idle and thackray for a few years now, but not bothered as I had too much water

I've been in last few years mate. I tend to fish it in winter for the grayling, but there are some nice chub to be had, and the occasional barbel (so I'm told). Not rejoined this year as I'm concentrating elsewhere but I'll be back in at some point soon
