After last nights disaster with my main line getting snapped, and taking on board what basha was saying, i reckon for those shallow gravels and boulders rocks etc....you do need a much more abrasive resistant line after a bit of research it seems fluorocarbon fits the bill, ive been looking at this from korda not cheap and its only 200 meters but gets great reviews and sinks like a brick, www.fishtec.co.uk/buy.cfm/fluorocarbon/korda-kontour-fluorocarbon-12lb/40/yes/63234If anyone has any other thoughts on which line might stand up to the punishment these type of bottoms give your line id be happy to hear your suggestions

I think you should use 7 strand horse hair in 10oz breaking strain

I wouldn't go with a fluro mainline mate, step up the mono, I'll be using sensor for the barbel this year,12lb, breaks higher than stated and cheap so you can replace often

Daz im using 12lb sensor at the moment thats what snapped last night mate, according to all the reviews and topics on fluoro it is supposed to be the best line to use when fishing rough bottoms, last year on the very swim i snapped off on last night i had to change my line almost at the end of each session or at least remove 50 to 80 yards from the reel it was that rough and frayed!! that was sensor also mate

mick switch to what ive moved too.far better and superior buddy than sensor.
shimano aero.same stuff shanes on.i gave ronny a spool he'll vouch for it grt reviews.ive got it in the 12 and 14lb strains its like toe rope.other than that stren is a grt line aswell right across the board.
dnt get me wrong im a grt lover of sensor, but since using the shimano ive seen a big difference also grt sinking and cheap for bulk spools.

I hooked a branch on the far bank other day.i reckon sensor would have give up the goat, but I broke the branch with the 14 got it all back and 15ft of branch and folidge .
its got a grt line lay aswell, give it a few cast before you start fishing to take some of the stretch out bud and you wnt be disappointed.

Either that or use a couple of foot of rig tubing above your swivel. I used it on the Wye a few years back and never had a single break on a really rocky stretch.

I'm surprised that 12lb sensor went like that( it's real breaking strain is a few pounds higher), but cut offs can happen on any mono?
If you've lost confidence in it, I would change, that shimano stuff sounds good.

Stu the rig tubing is a good idea, problem is ive got about 20yds of line laying on the bottom of fairly paceey shallows so that whole 20yds of line gets affected, doesnt matter how high you try to keep the rod so lines out of the water the nature and depth means theres always gonna be that amount if not more line laying on the gravels Daz Thats half the problem tbh im fine with it over normal beds so to speak but i have lost a bit of confidence in it for those particular conditions Tep Stevie it probs will be a case of trial and error, hopefully not to many errors though lol
