im sure there's people out there that can afford 70.00 notes for a days fishing.its bad enough paying a tenner for a commercial.
im just in the thinking that it takes half the pleasure away from actually going out and finding the fish yourself and learning the hard way.im sure it will suit some people mind.
70 notes is two gd clubs and what works on one water dosnt work on another.it takes more than one seshion to master a river specially bules.and deffinately no guarantee in fishing whatever river you fish, whether it be the tees which we know is a hard river for bules or the wye or the seven which are prime bule waters.you would need more than one seshion.
a total novice can go and catch a double figure bule if he sits on them and for sure if you know the water that's half the mission cracked, but im a grt believer the bules roam grt distances and no one hot spot stays a hot spot, due to river changes through floods etc.
creaselines, back flows all change from season to season, hence the reason why we walk the banks in closed season to see thoughs changes.
my thoughts only mind.ide much prefer to walk thoughs banks and solve thoughs issues myself and get to know the waters, thats half the fun of river fishing, and its taken me yrs to crack the waters I know.

You are right there Mark about the barbel migrating, more so on the Tees. I remember one fish being discussed that was caught in two locations six miles apart in one season. Probably are a few pegs you can rely on but certainly not "banker" pegs like on other rivers.

ide much prefer to spend my money on a guide if I was fishing a large expanse of water say loch Lomond for pike etc or the large carp waters.sometimes this is essential.i know from experience fishing windermere 12-14 times and blanking.in the end I was invited to go with a very gd friend of mine on his boat with all the essential tools.fish finders navigators,he new the waters well and we had instant results.not a fabulous day but fish all the same.
no one can guarantee you that on a river no matter how skilled they are.catching the record tees barbel dosnt make you an expert on a river.that fish may be as stu said 6 miles away.getting on the bank with a pair ov polaroids a light outfit and a gd set ov pegs is the way to go.50 yrs on the bank has its advantages, but still no guarantee in this sport.conditions may look perfect but if they aint gonna feed that's it.
all I can say is save your money, get out there with someone local from a forum such as this who will take you along.let them tell you what they know, put your knowledge together.fish apart in different swims.go out of an evening and prebait swims over a period of time including the last few wks of the closed season.spend your 70 quid on a pair ov polaroids and gd pair ov boots and put in some homework of your own.
70 quid for one session is ridiculous.you will learn nothing more than you can find on the web or sights like this and similar sights.you don't have to be an expert, just have the termination to get up and have a go.we are all learning still with new methods coming all the time.
as said before place/time/bait/location is the key.no gd planning a day when all this dosnt happen and to fail.
if shane dosnt mind me doing so,we could use him as an example.the day we met him at topcliff,he was a bitt screwed up on riggs and tactics.with a little help from myself/and the two micks one been forty, we guided him into what we knew.from there he has learnt to do things on his own and become a reliable angler, venturing out on his todd and doing the business.thats all it takes and it didn't cost him a sent.
just expect to spend a lot of time on the bank and the fishes will come.short seshions are my fav ov an evening.

Just my humble opinion, is there the head of barbel on that stretch that warrants somebody forking out 75 quid for a day fishing for them?? I'm sure if it were the Kennet or somewhere renowned as a barbel water then fair enough. As someone said earlier I'd pay 200 quid for a day with Westy ( the knowledge gained would be well worth it). I know they are trying to raise much needed revenue to pay the lease so let's wait and see if this latest idea works eh

If they are short of funds why not ask other clubs to join those already involved?

Good Question that Stu, i wonder if they have before and maybe been rejected ?? i would certainly keep trying though, i think theirs only Stockton and Yarm as far as local clubs are concerned which are not members, but theirs no need to stay local why not approach Leeds,Bradford and the smaller yorkshire clubs who maybe looking to extend the waters they have available, i know that the joining fee for clubs is very low, so it wouldn't skint a club, but sayin all that we dont know the full workings it could be any one of a number of reasons why not, maybe insurance or something like that ??

the whiskers on the tees are so spread out and move all the time, unlike the swale/nidd/wharfe,were you have pockets of fish at certain times of the yr.the weir is the same no one spot is ever the same.if it had a larger stock of whiskers then it may be money well spent, but as said by others it wouldn't be for me.whether it be trevor west or anyone else.im not saying I wouldn't love a sesh with trevor west, ide be lying if I said that.but trevor west didn't learn what he knows in one outing.he has learnt over a long period of time, fishing a river time after time.hence the reason its worth putting the hours in and getting out there.
not catching a whisker from a likely spot on 4-5 occasions, dosnt mean its a crap swim and dosnt hold them.seen me fish 7 days in a swim I know holds fish and get bugger all, then on the 8th day take 7 fish out.prebaiting will make a big difference over a few days if you can find a spot that you know someone else dosnt fish.usually the hard too get too ones.also if there's a large head of chub, usually not all you can guarantee the whiskers wnt be far behind them even if you don't catch em.
things must be bad if they are charging that amount for a tees whisker.i know its some peoples dream to catch a tees bule.but ide much prefer to think I had gone out and caught one using my own hard work.thats half the fun waiting for that bule to run off,on the tees or any other water.i think most anglers who are after a tees fish arnt doing anything wrong.if it was the swale they would have probabely caught by now doing what they are.but the tees is a different kettle of fish.
neither trevor west or anyone else can give you 50 yrs of fishing experience in one 70.00 seshion.better just getting out and learning for yourself.
also on the post.it says a whole day, most of us know that you are more likely to catch first thing or evening.not saying you cant catch a whisker in daylight if the conditions are rite.but you stand a greater chance at dusk.wonder if this includes fishing into dark aswell??,or is it a 9-5 jobby.

I agree Mark, I think for a novice to river barbel/chub fishing it would be useful and maybe worth the cash it would offer a good spring board for them, i know theres a million vids out there that you can watch on the subject but sometimes its better to see it yourself in real life action, for instance i was talking to a lad yesterday at westgate who has been out of fishing for 20yrs, he asked me what i was fishing and i explained the method to him, he was over the moon he said he had seen vids on it but actually seeing it in action and being able to ask me questions and look at the set up close up and touch the pellets to see what the consistency was of them was invaluable to him and he learned a lot more in 15mins talking to me than he could have in a week watching videos (ps i charged him 80 notes lmao )

totally agree mate.but there is so much knowledge out there on forums and guys like yourself sat on the bank waiting for that opportunity to help a fellow angler, that there is no need to pay ridiculous amounts of money.still waters such as westy or any other Stillwater are easier to explain in 15 minutes than running water.as said before reading a river dosnt come easy as it changes throughout the season.so in that respect a wander round a venue with someone who knows that river is beneficial, but also do able on your own with the determination and commitement of ones self.and asking questions along the way from other anglers.or just even sat quietely behind someone and watching them.
as experienced as yourself and many others,we can fish what we think are the rite tactics and fail.its all about swopping the changes if things arnt working out on the bank, and not sitting there waiting for things to happen.you can always revert back to what you were fishing if they all fail.
these are my thoughts only.you only end up a decent river angler if you put the hours in.on a stilly you can take from one venue and catch on another.fish aint going know were apart from down a cormorants throat, they are either up one end or the other or somewere in between.unlike a river they could have moved 6 miles away.cant see you managing that on a river in one sitting.and if that was the tees you would have to be in a fair few clubs to do it lol.
they say they have resident fish, its bollocks.no such thing as regular fish on the tees,if it was that easy everyone would be hitting thoughs spots time and time again and getting fish all the time.you stand just as much chance getting a bule from the davenport free stretch or the scar than you do on private estate waters as they say.

Personally I think you learn a lot more doing it alone - and get a greater sense of achievement when you do.
I went lure fishing for bass for two summers in a row without getting one. Third season, I was out again, at dawn, not expecting anything but have a good time, and then thump, fish on! Hard fighting bass was landed and I had massive grin on my face. Ten minutes later I'd landed two more before they were gone.
I noted time, state of tide, location, weather etc. kept records, and since then I've been a lot more successful, selecting the best chance of catching.
Main thing is though, that morning is still one of the happiest fishing memories I have.
I think there's something to be said for getting out there and doing it yourself

The facts of the matter are that the nysd is in need of cash and quickly, as most of you know mick and I have been privy to the finances of the club over the last few weeks which were made public to us via another member. Apparently the landowner charges a large rental on the stretch and the money coming in from club fees and matches doesn't even equate to half the rent!! For me it seems crazy to pay astronomical rents even if it is fantastic fishing. I wonder how much longer it can go on?

they will never make enough money by doing 6 seshions at 70 quid ste. good on them if it works,i klnow they say its in high demand and places will be taken very quickly, but I doubt that is the solution to there problems.but every little helps I suppose.but as said is it worth it for a river that is so fickle when it comes to bules.I personally don't think so.in the times that we are in at the moment,i cant see a grt deal of people paying that type of money.people who are already in clubs etc, probabely know enough about the tees anyways.and as said if it was trevor west on the severn, attitudes would change for sure.
