Most canals are still open during the closed season, and i suppose there the next closest thing to running water, so i think now im in a club that has a few canal stretches i may well give them a go, even if there not club waters, could be day ticket im still gonna have a dabble, i know pocklington canal is fairly close and is in nice river like surrondings, anyone else got any recommendations hopefully somewhere that holds some chub and decent perch ?

Now there's an intriguing one. Milby cut canal, you can literally see where it enters the river. The river fish come and go as they please, it's a very short cut from the river. Hmmmm.....should it / can it be fished?

Its on the bradford no1 forum mate some lad was unsure so he got in touch with the EA who sent him a email telling him it was classed as a main river...probs only because its only a short canal to navigate past the rapids and shallow water on the main river....bit your not alone seems like lots of lads been fishing it in the closed season not realising it isnt classrd as a true canal Sent from my GT-S5570 using proboards

Ripon canal is worth a look Mick. I haven't fished it since I joined Leeds but I've had decent perch, chub and good scrapping carp out. £5 a day and that covers the marine lake as well. Have a look at the Ripon Piscatorials site. I live 15 mins walk from the canal so if you fancy a day......

I fished it before I joined Bradford like mick.fished it in the open season but only the mouth of it for the bream.
ripon canal used to be the beez neez.fished it last year got some bitts or was it yr before that I forgot now.had bout 12lb ov skimmers/roach/gonks usual small stuff.pike are grt if you want em and the carp go like steam trains.only thing that put me off is when the boat traffic is heavey it drains to almost a trickle and knacks your swim for a bit.used to fish up against the bottom lock gate, wiped out loads ov times on the pole so if you go rigged up don't go to lite.
