white hydro is 6-10 but like everyone says will catch anything from a 2oz roach to a 20lb carp if your going to fish hutton a lot and don't want to pay £15 for a elastic I would put middy hi viz in 10-12 and if you have another kit spare 14-16 that will stop the carp up there from charging off I have our young un set up with the 10-12 hi viz in his pole set soft and it does ok for them ide roach bream and also gives him some backup when the big carp turn up the hi viz costs £4 for 6m so you can get two top kits out of a spool

to be honest mick after reading through the threads again I would just get the middy hi viz just incase you mess up the pole is pretty easy to use but I have known it in my early days pole fishing you would get a fish it would either wipe you out or the hook would pull ending up with the line all around the elastic have been there and done it lol at least this elastic doesn't cost the earth and till your used to the pole then splash out on the hydro I would be gutted my self if I had the line wrap around mine as it would be a expensive boo boo lol

nice one Mark, think i will go for the hydro like you say its more expensive but will well out last normal laggys so it probs works out better value in the long run and from what im reading the 6-10 should cover most fishing situations and species

Don't know if this is just me but whenever I use a light elastic I always hit bigger fish soon as I put a heavier elastic on the bigger fish vanish :/ I only use hydro except my really heavy stuff Where I use matrix hollow I'll only buy elastic if I'm comfortable with it but your new to the pole business! Some people swear by Preston But I hate the stuff

that's how it allways works marty lol back in the day we used to fish hemlington lake on number 4 elastic think it was vespe when you hit the carp we used to lift the pole sky high and hope for the best lmao how times have changed I wouldn't dare fish a 4 on hemmo now must say I am a fan of prestons fluro solid elastic number 10 used to be my favourite for years then when I bought some hydro am converted to that now but back to the thread I think mick would be best to go down the middy hi viz route till he decides the pole is the way to go or its no good for him

I wont be on commys Mark its really only gonna see the light of day at hutton/raskelf and queen marys ponds which is mainly a sivers and Tench water, i only have two top kits one has been laggied with some black elastic which has never been used but i have no idea what rating it is, it looks a lot thinner than the 12 i had in my 6mtr pole but i really havent a clue, so im just looking to get the other top done with something that would be a suitable all round laggy if there is such a thing?? im thinking you guys are right and i should start with some cheaper stuff till i become more used to using the pole
