Apart from a big trout caught on a flooded Swale and getting soaked to the skin last weekend the past month has been a write off for me. I can only get out on a Sunday and still wake up at 6am even if I can't go fishing but what else do you do to get out of housework or the Metrocentre? For me it's been the opportunity to get to know my Dslr camera,it's not fishing but still a chance to see the great outdoors, visit new places, and get some fresh air. I still like some kind of water especially when it includes sunrises or sunsets, can't get away from the angler's night creature mentality These 2 are from Hartlepool Headland. A couple of Seaham harbour lighthouse. Anybody else got any hobbies that come second to fishing but keep you sane when fishing's a non starter? Going to be a bit drier this week, fingers crossed this weekend might be ok

Been a strange winter,Jim. In fact I'd say it's been a very long autumn. Don't think there's been a week when I've thought "yep, this Sunday is a grayling day, frosty and crisp". I'm not even sure the chub have moved to their usual winter haunts, very strange. Only 7 weeks left to the end of the season!

True! Temps have rarely dipped below zero, and constant bands of rain coming in.
I've got a couple f days off where I'm going to get some fishing in, on top of the usual weekends between now and season end. And then I'll have a couple of weeks off before the fly rod comes out.
Might even fish a pond or two in search of carp and tench

Anywhere locally for decent sized tench? I must admit they are one of my favourite species.

Times have changed,Mark, with health and safety etc. I couldn't get along the piers to have any crack with the fishermen because of the gates with key holder entry only. Understandable I suppose. Thanks Mick, funny you should say that. The shot of Seaham lighthouse was used on tonight's Look North, unfortunately it wasn't mine

Westgate, Hutton rudby, bishopton mill, etc. all hold excellent tench at the right time of the year. And in also hearin of some very big tench (7 to 8lb bracket) in queen marts pond, ripon, which is Bradford no 1. Looking forward to trying for them

queen Mary's is the bee's knees jim cracking water.
know what you mean Graeme.we often fished the rathouse at roker.roker was so unpredictable,if there was a slight swell gates would be locked.we used to like st Mary's island but tides predicted what time you get across the walkway.seaham anglers had the best of the fishing with access to the piers.have you tried newbiggen some nice spots along there worth a try.
we arnt so bad here with the gare, salty pier, whitby etc.one of my haunts on a big swell would be scarboroughs north bay of the beach cracking spot.the drive itself was spoilt when they stuck the sea defence blocks down, hence the reason most of mine was rock hopping.
