The Angling Trust are seeking clarification on whether angling is to be included on the list of "organised sports". Once these new rules are announced tomorrow I can see them being in force for quite some time and if I can't sit in a field with nobody within 2 miles never mind 2 metres it'll be a bitter blow. Clubs will have no choice but to close waters so will you abide by the rules or still fish rivers with little likelihood of being caught?
"The approved Angling Trust guidelines have sufficient safeguards and levels of
compliance and ought to satisfy any concerns in these circumstances.
We therefore argue that angling should either be on a list of exempt activities from Level 3
restrictions or that the restrictions themselves be reworded to more accurately reflect the
government’s concerns around people coming too close together in close proximity as a
result of participation in amateur and unregulated team sports. Something that simply does
not occur in the vast majority on angling situations.
It would be helpful if the wording of the proposed Level 3 restrictions in respect of sporting
activities was clarified to reflect those issues that need addressing and that so that any
unfortunate unintended consequences can be avoided"
I'm assuming that we all live in areas that are probably classed as Level 3 of course.

Fingers crossed on this one. It'll be a very miserable six months if we're all completely stuck in again. I'm serious about doing what it takes to control covid, but surely angling's got a role in helping keep the country sane.
I'm confused by what I've read about travel. In tier 2, which is likely to apply across Teesside/Co Durham, it's allowed to travel to take part in sport 'provided it is organised by an official body', or some such wording. Ok, there the Angling Trust's an the official body, but is angling 'organised'? Maybe river fishing's more like hiking, which I assume is allowed. I hope so anyway.

Sorry dont give a s***! At 72 and reasonably fit and really what have older active people got to look forward to. Getting weaker and unable to do what you love doing. if l get the virus wont be going near any hospital or doctor. It will either take me or l will get over it.
Will continue to fish the rivers. Let's face it thoes of us who do fish rivers during the winter midd week very rarely if ever see anyone.

In reality if you dont broadcast the fact you are going fishing. Who is going to know. Let's face it during the last lockdown there were people still going fishing!

Well, looks like we've dodged Tier 3 for the moment anyway but not heard any complaints from anyone in Liverpool about sports being cancelled but maybe it's too early yet. I agree that nobody would know if any of us was out fishing on a river, the only thing that would bother me is the possibility of being banned from a club if caught fishing waters that we know are officially closed. Bit like poaching I suppose. With any luck it'll never happen .

I can travel anywhere in the UK for work and be alongside 1000 other workers from all over the place on a construction site of a power station. How is that any less dangerous than sitting on a river bank and seeing nobody. I'll be hidden away fishing somewhere.
