Been out few times in-between lot of commitment , tried four short sessions on tees purely for a barbel ,resulting in 9 chub to about 3lb , and lots of people ignored chub bites as fishing long hair .
Have to say iv enjoyed it , im not too bothered about chub I find they don't fight very long or hard tho tbf over gunned as using barbel gear .
The ones iv caught bigger specimens that have taken the hair rigged pellets
I have hooked one barbel whilst messing about with lighter set up fishing for perch for hour during sunny afternoon on ADTAC water , it was buzzard gentle taps then rod ripped off I only had four pound line ,water was clear I had it on ages but in all honesty had next to no chance of landing it as was some flow on inside bank but I saw it and it had a huge ulceration on its left flank , eventually snapped line im guessing between 8 and 10lb .
Iv only been to Swale once since last month and can't find time to go to Wharfe at present ,had one barbel on Swale a nice fish arround 6 to 7lb
But im enjoying the tees , which is lightly fished two of places iv been have been so overgrown I couldn't fish them as had no cutting equipment
But it's a beautiful river and il keep trying

Given its the back end of August it's still a bit weird to be opening swims on the river this far into a season.
Fished an area of atadac yesterday for the first time in a few years and where there used to be 3 swims it is so overgrown with trees it is now not fishable, unless you took a chainsaw to it. While it appears the club waters are sort of maintained, atadac is left to whoever can be bothered to cart cutting gear around and spend hours sweating and being neettled. This leads to only half a dozen swims being fishable and therefore regularly used. It doesn't help that atadac is very secretive and there are no channels for transmitting information between the members and the club.

If I pay to fish a stillwater I expect to have a safe and level peg to fish from but as mainly a river angler I don't really expect anyone to create me a peg, there's just too much water for clubs to sort pegs out and they'll probably be washed away in the first flood. If I'm fishing a new area I have a walk down the stretch with a spade and sort a couple of pegs out,not usually hard work when the banks are soft and because I sit on a small Shakespeare stool I only need a small area so don't do any damage to the bank. Always have a trowel in the bag so I can make sure I'm nice and comfortable before I start fishing. I don't know if there's any sort of committee responsible for the Association waters but I noticed that all of the signs are regularly maintained and all of the peg numbers at Dinsdale look relatively new although as far as I'm aware no matches are fished on the stretch these days so wondered why anyone bothered. Lovely stretches of water.

There's a bit of difference between cutting some 4ft nettles to access the swim (which I do) and taking saws, loppers and ropes to clear old overgrown pegs.
3 pegs open below girsby bridge then nothing till the end of the stretch. Above the bridge there are a few spots but then nothing. The same goes for the E2 entrance at the bottom of the steps.
Dinsdale has 1 peg above the bridge I could find. Below has a few until opposite One Row then it's back to being a jungle.
Like I said it would be good if there was correspondence in place to organise work parties to clear areas of trees. At the end of the day it's an asset the clubs but if nobody can fish these areas people will become disillusioned.

Couple of good points being raised here: i)No ATDAC website to share info/gather opinions/raise volunteers ii ) access problem now is as likely to be willow growth making it too hard for individual anglers to clear pegs, as needs chainsaws iii) still goodwill to draw on as acknowledgement that some good work is still being done and committees have a hard job on their hands.

I agree with everything on here but it's also true we pay a sub to fish each year ,im fine with clearing stuff if permitted but I also believe everyone involved from club, farmers who own access and get paid for access should all work together
