Teesside association have the water at Girsby but parking isn't allowed down the lane. Have to park at Sockburn and walk down the hill and fish your own bank, not over the bridge on the Yorkshire side. If you're a member of Yarm,Stockton,Thornaby,or Darlington brown trout you'll be in the association and the info.is all on the maps.

Thanks for the advice, I'm in Middlesbrough club but looking to join Yarm. Always wary of parking up and being nuisance. So will read up instructions in year book. Thanks again.

Middlesbrough aren't in Adtac mate so you won't be a able to fish it, Boro have lower dinsdale either side of the old toll bridge on the church side, they are however in the ltaa (lower tees angling association) so you also get around bowesfield and Preston park 👍😉

I get lost with the multitude of different things that people call the various stretches in this area. To me, Girsby is on the Yorkshire side and only refers to south bank stretches. The opposite side of the river is Sockburn/Sockburn Loop. Much of the Yorkshire banks around Girsby seem to have been lost to fishing. Two different lengths on this side have been NYSD water in the recent past. The first (downstream of All Saints Church) was reputedly lost due to someone having a bit of a barney with a gamekeeper. The second, upstream and opposite Sockburn Hall to just above the remnants of the old bridge, went when NYSD chose to give it up. I've not heard of another individual club taking it on, but it's a possibility. I believe that it was Darlington Brown Trout water prior to it being NYSD. Just to further confuse me, I've heard people talking about the Dinsdale (Loop) stretches as being something other than Dinsdale. It's quite possible to have long confusing conversations about totally different stretches.
The same sort of confusion exists on the Swale (and other rivers), but I'm not so easily confused as I'm far more familiar with the Swale.

Always been called Sockburn for me aswell on the Durham side, never fished the other bank. Dinsdale is always The Toll bridge,The Green Lane,The Hollies, and Rosehill but depends how far you've walked I suppose .

Hi Andy. Yes,the Association has lots of water in the area. Sockburn and Dinsdale are in the same area but different stretches,Sockburn is accessed via Neasham whereas Dinsdale has different access points in the Toll bridge area. I've got a map with all the waters and access points clearly stated, you should have one if you're in Stockton AC. If you fancy Sockburn I'd recommend travelling light, some long walks and steep hills but a lovely place just like most of the Tees.

Andy. If you give me your email address I'll scan the maps and send them to you. A word of warning though, the land owners don't like people wandering around and request that you take a rod even if you aren't fishing so they don't need to challenge you. The walk down to the bridge and Girsby is a public footpath though.

I really like the whole Sockburn stretch. To me, the Old Hall gives it all a haunted house feel. Spooky as the light starts to fall. The wildlife's good too.
As for the Yorkshire bank, I've seen people fishing it just past the bottom of the loop. As I recall, they were from that mysterious Harrowgate Hill club, which has no website and may be based at a club in Darlo. I'm not even sure I've remembered the name right. Much of the rest of the Yorkshire bank is steep and heavily wooded.
