As with many regular anglers, my licence expired at the end of March. I was not going to bother until the lockdown was lifted. However, something I saw from the AT persuaded me that renewing even if we couldn't fish might be a good idea. They suggested that a huge downturn in licence sales would not help their push to get angling restarted as early as possible. With that in mind, and an uncharacteristic bout of optimism, I ordered my licence in mid April to start on the first of May. It arrived within four days. The other positive aspect is that next year I'll probably avoid the scrum of people renewing on either 1st of April or whatever date the angling lockdown ends.

Mines June ,from what im reading it could be July or August before we will be able to fish as we know it That depends on what you read and what you mean by "fish as we know it". Some media sources are suggesting that fishing, within some sensible constraints, might be allowed from as early as Monday. I suspect that one of the constraints is going to be based on distance travelled. I'll be very surprised if anglers are suddenly allowed to travel, without limits, to whichever distant venue takes their fancy. However, it's all just speculation at the moment. Unless it's from someone in government or a senior civil servant, we won't know what's really going to happen until Sunday.
I'm not counting any chickens yet, but I hope it won't be long before I can fish my venue of choice in the not too distant future. At a pinch, I could walk to it and there has never been any issue with distancing from other people.

Think we getting too hung up on licences I think there's more chance they will be checking we washed our hands or got gloves on I know for a fact that there has been a ATr/EA volunteer bailiff patrolling in our neck of the woods through the period of lockdown.

Iv only seen two in my long fishing time Sam one at a fly fishery and one at commercial, never seen one on a river In our neck of the woods, I've been checked by EA bailiffs twice at Topcliffe (Leeds and the old Black Bull stretch) and once at Langton. Perhaps once or twice in the 90s I'll have got checked on Woodlands. Bank holiday weekends on the big commies are the most likely places. There's not much point in them walking miles of river to not even see anyone fishing. If you are going to see them on the river, it's likey to be during a big match or somewhere busy with good access. I've been checked a few times on the Trent, once or twice by them patrolling in boats. The free stretches of the Tees used to get checked fairly regularly.

Il always get one tho not only not worth the risk it's part of the routine I used to prefer the big old licences even tho the thin bank card size ones are more practical , used to like the post office writing it out when you went for it , God im getting old lol
