Now that the government have said we're over the worst and started to openly discuss plans for easing the lockdown I'm hoping for more positive news next week. A few more shops opening, lads getting back to work, and the kids getting back to school, all subject to distancing rules of course. Maybe, just maybe,we'll be allowed to leave home a bit more and a few sports could be opened up to improve mental health and give us a bit more normality. Let's hope angling is near the top of the list, just behind the premier league hopefully . I've been spending my fishing downtime keeping care of one of my local ponds with a few other lads,a good time to give a little bit back to the sport and keep in touch with what's going on. Can't wait to get back to evenings like this.

Amen to that mate, can't believe how much I'm missing getting out with the fly rod, I think a lot of it is also part mindset, as in being told we can't go fishing makes it even more appealing to go fishing lol, like kids who get told no sweets but know there's bags of them in the cupboard lol 😉

Like us all getting more and more frustrated with this lockdown. Had several weeks last year when slowed down after my heart operation. But l knew that l would be able to drive after six weeks. Ok doctors advice is a three month lay off exertion. Me it was seven weeks. This not allowed on a pond or river bank as we all know as far as an individual going fishing is stupid. Personally l am far closer to people on my twice daily dog walks than l ever get fishing.

It seems like an awful lot of furloughed workers are going back to work on Monday the 11th. With a bit of luck, angling might be allowed then, or shortly after. However, I suspect that it's likely to come with distance restrictions to avoid people travelling far. As the place I really want to fish is just a couple of miles away, I should be OK. It's also a nice quiet venue which will have minimal footfall even if distance restrictions are fairly generous. As a dedicated user of maggots, it's going to be interesting to see how I get on without them. I suspect corn, stewed wheat and SPAM are going to see more use than I normally give them.

You could always go old school Sam and farm your own, the old biscuit tin with a few holes in and a cheap small chicken inside, let nature take its course then riddle off the maggots, mind by the time that's done hopefully the tackle shops will be back open, but how long will it be before they're able to get bait deliveries ??

I've got nowhere to grow my own and I'm not sure I'd want to if I had. I've no idea how long it might take the maggot farms to really get going again. I've seen some suggestions of about a week, others saying about a month. I doubt it matters if journeys are restricted. I could be pushing my luck getting to the tackle shop. In the short term, Willy Worms are still showing as having stock. Beggars can't be choosers.

i didnt get out as much last year due to work commitments but planned on balancing it out this year to spend more time on the bank then lockdown came along.at lease fisheries can be policed better with social distancing and the rules enforced.i think they should keep more public fishing places of limits to stop all the numpties going in hordes and spoilng it for the ones that respect the rules.but fingers crossed if werr allowed.
