In the light of the government relaxing the travel rules on exercise Rob Hughes of the Angling Trust has said that they are lobbying ministers in an effort to include angling in the list of approved exercise. The gist of it is if people can travel to the beach or the countryside for fresh air and general mental health wellbeing then angling should be included in that category provided the rules of distancing are respected. Whether he'll be successful is open to argument but nice to know there's something happening behind the scenes on our behalf and maybe there's a glint of light at the end of the tunnel. In the meantime keep to the rules and we'll get there .

I prefer to have a more positive outlook,Andy. The vast majority of the UK public have done everything asked of them and now we've been asked to do it again for another 3 weeks. The government must know that they can't carry on with the stick without giving a bit of carrot in return if they want the population to stay onside throughout the epidemic so have already said it's now acceptable to drive a short distance in order to take some exercise. If (a big if) the deaths start to decrease as predicted the media will want to know more details of the exit strategy,in fact it's already started but Matt Hancock is resisting at the moment. The exit will have to start somewhere with very small steps and I accept that social distancing will be here for some time yet but I can see the likes of angling, hiking, and birding being allowed provided we all stay sensible. I have 3 stillwaters within a 10 minute drive and I can't see why I shouldn't be allowed to fish them provided the situation has started to improve and I don't do anything stupid like driving 150 miles for an overnighter on the Trent. The same could be applied to other outdoor pursuits where social distancing is not difficult and we've already proved that we can all act responsibly. As regards sports like golf, football, rugby etc. I don't think there's any chance of them restarting due to the close proximity of the competitors, the same reason pubs and restaurants won't be opening anytime soon. I know getting the kids back to school and everyone back to work is far more important but I think the government is acutely aware that the mental health of the general public needs some stimulation and it can be easily improved by giving us a bit more freedom.

on a serious note good discussion, you got to have a laff or youll crack up.im coping ok at the moment.i now class myself as an expert gardener, and an expert txting machine, never used my phone so much.ive even got to txt mr dingle now.used to be are you coming fishing, dnt know why I bother like he never comes and when he does its 10 o clock when he arrives,we sod off at 10.30 lol...…..anyways chaps stay safe the lot ov you,and hopefully in a few weeks or so we can hit the banks once again.

Think with this isolation it really depends on were you live. Me a short walk through the houses and l can get onto country foot paths were you raely see anyone. Out on my bike the roads are empty, apart from people on bikes and lots of them. So actually getting out is ok for me. As those of us know we could go fishing and be in total isolation. Bait would be a problem. No maggots but the online firms appear to be open so pellets, ground bait would be no problem. So we live in hope of a return soon to fishing.

It is andy, just got to stay positive, it aint easy but tell my self, im not facing patients every day with inadequate ppe, im not living in a shanty town, or slums in india, brazil etc, we have shelter water sky tv, smart phones..... its a pisser but could be a lot worse, im sure we will emerge from this and be a lot more thankful for what we have and more appreciative of other people and what they do. We will get through it andy mate, got to keep thinking positive. Your lucky cos you dont have to endure the constant ridicule from the genetic throw backs like mick basha etc, i get it on here on me phone along with all the other bast.rds i know, its relentless, and im only minding my own business. You take care bud as mick said if you need to sound off no problem

Well said Steve - we could be a lot worse off, we could be in a third world country etc etc
Stay safe and stay well everyone - I am just off fishing outside my house 👍 Going to see if I can tie that old favourite fly pattern - "a piece of bread" 😄😄

Your lucky andy, what id give for a takeaway right now, i live in a village between richmond and dton, no take aways we dont even have a shop! I'm not the most regular patron of any takeaway. However, the fact I can't have one means that I'd kill for one right now. A shop and two (closed) pubs aren't much use in that respect.
