From the olden days when we used to go fishing. Two chub over 5 pounds in the same session from my favourite stretch of the Swale. Seems a long time ago now .

Nothing particularly noteworthy that I can recall. That's not to say that I didn't have some good days though. The better end of the spectrum would have been - A mixed bag of dace, grayling, chublets and roach that would have amounted to around 30lb. My only long distance trip of the year that resulted in a nice friendly meet and somewhere near 100 tench (from as little as 2oz to no more than 3lb. A reasonable number of local tench to 5lb 15oz and a surprise catch of four eels (on two consecutive evenings) around the 2lb mark.

Last year like the previous my river trips were chasing silvers. I had one summer evening session on the Tees resulting in a small 5lb sized barble, plus the inevitable chub. Had several really good days on the Tees using float rod and centre pin. On several trips catching well over 20lb of small dace roach chub and perch. Also had some really good 9 till 5 days fishing Bowesfiled area catching good nets silvers on the pole. Some super days on the lower Leven fishing our private club water.

2019 seen me hit some beautiful Scottish venues, some of the highlights were my largest brace being 21.10 and 19.02. The highlight however was hitting a highland loch trip May last year, against all odds as a planned fishing trip was cancelled the night before, so a week later I went alone. I had so much to do as my parents were moving house, when the move hit a glitch and confirmation it was cancelled I made the 6 hour drive. Not feeling the love for the first venue, my google earth spot was near impossible to find as I had no phone signal and it was pitch black. The following day after an overnight frost I set off for venue 2 around lunch time. I arrived and was set up with rods in the water at around 3pm. Instantly I had a run and it fought like a steam train! At around 9lb and fat as a pig I slipped it back thinking promising, no signs of spawning here yet. My next run was around 6pm and was gentle then the fight was vicious, my rod was doubled up but at no point I thought it was a huge fish. During the fight I really played this fish hard and dragged it back when it took runs towards my other rod. During the fight I just thought a big double maybe 16lb or something. Then I netted the beast and seen it’s girth. I was go smacked. 3 hours in to a brand new venue, this was my fish of 2019
