Andy go and walk the banks at different levels take notes look at where holds water u get a better idea getting out and having a look rather than info via forum mate. I fish for different species on different rivers in different conditions and learnt where I can and cant catch. It's all part of the fun I fail alot but learn everytime. For pike look for dead water use a pike float leger so u can plumb the depths. Good luck

Remember that old adage “Pike thrive on neglect”.. there’s plenty of neglected water on the Tees for sure!

Remember that old adage “Pike thrive on neglect”.. there’s plenty of neglected water on the Tees for sure! I hadn't heard that one before, Robin, but I reckon it's spot on. Other way of putting it - the further you walk, the better the fishing. Not always true but decent rough and ready rule. Plus Marc's advice to look for dead water.

The best advice I would give would be to get the proper gear, go with someone experienced and learn how to handle and unhook fish.
Once the above is sorted find your own fishing it’s much more rewarding than being put onto waters, swims etc.

Cheers just hadn't a clue iv done pretty much all of the above and so far been out four times for few hrs each time between us we've had 5 Jack's up to 5lb not sure when a hack becomes a proper pike like , it's been fun but don't think it would ever replace barbel or chub ,but at least it's another string to my bow especially in boring winter months ,cheers all

My general rule and it’s used by a lot of Piker’s is a Jack is a fish up until it reaches double figures. A 10lb -11lb fish will be a scraper double 13-16lb fish a mid double 17-19lb fish an upper double Or there there abouts. Some waters, like below can break the rules.

Dunno how I feel about piking so far seems fun but not something I can totally get into , honestly think I prefer targeting big perch , pike just seem like a thing more than a fish lol , but granted their colour and markings are very pretty
My mates the opposite he's loving it he reminds me of quin off jaws the way hes going on , me I'm dreaming of dusk on a warm cloudy summers evening , when big splashes turn up and move closer to where my bait is before the rid rips off

Here's a question about jacks. Is it possible to tell the difference between a male pike, which as I understand it are always under 10lb, and a young female? The jack in the picture above is so stocky it looks like it'd grow on to be much bigger, so I'd assume a young female. On the other hand some jacks look fairly scrawny, so I'd assume they'd be male.

If it makes a lot of noise on the bank and never shuts up and flaps about it's a female, if it just lays there calmly and let's you unhook it and get it back without fuss it's a Male 😂😂👍👍😉
