Planning a day out today but decided to give it a miss. Never had much success on a rising river. As my results have been poor of late didnt need much to dissuade me. For sure we have had wet periods in the past but l am struggling to remember a time when the river was so constantly in flood. For sure used to look forward to a winter flood but now hopefully we will run into a dry spell soon.

Its driving me nuts John, everytime I get a decent chance to get out the rivers come back up and coloured up again, I've bit the bullet and gone all be it for 3 very short pike sessions fishing in mud water which I'm not a fan of for pike, and for me I was right with 3 blanks to prove it, but it was go out and blank or go stir crazy, I've got some time next week free, but yup more rain forecast all next week too !!!! Arrrggghhhhh

Likewise, with around 3 pints of maggots in the bait fridge and no work today I'd been hedging my bets for a few hours on Salmon Hall, or as a backup, another session for those ide at the Oaks. Out of bed at 6.30 am, a glance out of the window & a quick check on a couple of weather sights was enough to change my mind. With yet more rain forecast I cant see me running a big stick down the river any time soon !

You need to come see the chickens, there's a few pike in there too.

I had thought about that as it happens, one of my pike trips last week was to salmon hall, it was hoofing through well up and chocolate, I had one take in the only reasonable slack I could find but I struck way to soon and failed to hook up ๐

Are tickets available for those stretches or is it members only mate ? Theres a few canal stretches on my bradford book on the leeds liverpool, I've fished it a few times but where I fished it was right in a town centre and I wasnt a fan of all the passers by half of which were drunks and a bloody nuisance ๐

Most of it is Doncaster AA Mick. ยฃ5 a day on the bank. Plenty of easy access with parking points on the canal side.

Out of interest, is Salmon Hall on the Tees? I was mistakenly thinking Snow Hall at first, which seemed a bit too far upriver pike-wise.

It seems to be constantly raining. Itโs getting to that time of year where I like to be roving the banks for chub and pike but I just donโt fancy it at the moment. Think Iโll stick to Stillwater and sea fishing until it sorts itself out
