In my constant pursuit for tench had bit crack from someone who fishes Welham lake, he reckons carlton towers full of tench when he went there.
Iv rang the estate, they no longer upkeep it, but for £50 locals can pay once and then fish it as often as they like, anyone got any knowledge
Cheers

Apparently either single anglers can join or clubs and up to them to maintain pegs n stuff, if fish still in surely may be worth few of us joining, a fairly local lake in Nice surroundings with quality tench

I thought it was quite close but when Iv googled it, it's in goole, 81 mile, I'm still gonna go and have a look, meant to have some lumps in, and 50 quid OK if I get there 3 or four times before colder weather comes later in year

For a short while a few years back, the fella that runs Welham was running the Carlton Towers tench pond. Sadly, despite lots of forum tyre kicking, it didn't translate to enough people actually paying to fish it. If you've never seen anything of the place, have a look at this video.
As far as containing lumps goes, much will depend on your definition of "lump". Last time I talked to anyone that fished it much, they suggested 2.5-3lb was about average and a fish over 5lb was big for the water. I'd rather like to give it a go, but it would need to be at least fifty miles closer for there to be any danger of me fishing it regularly.
Shame that Castle Howard Lake went down the pan, Gormire got sold, Welham is a carp lake and Langton is no longer fished. The only local(ish) day ticket tench waters I'd consider now would be Langthorne and Selley Bridge. If I were prepared to travel any distance, I' be looking at the prospect of joining Allerton Bywater Victoria AC to get access to Lowther Lake.

I went had a walk round allerton by water last week Sam seen some big tench cruising in amongst the carp, it's a fantastic set up there too, also got a oxbow included, for 20 quid a year (night fishing extra 40 but waiting list at mo) I'm very tempted, took me about 1hr 15 on a steady run down there, it was a lot bigger than I had imagined but also holds some quality bream 10lb plus

Lad I know fished that place as he lived near by, he raved about its tench, as you say mick £20 a year you can't fall off, I'm thinking about it, might as well join another club and not fish it! I'm going to try selley bridge on Thursday as im down this neck of the woods, will post my blank report up later

I was well impressed with it mate extremely well looked after by the club ....just be ready for how big it is, I was gonna join when I was down there as a shop (think it's called rods and things ??) Is only 4 mile away from the lake and you can only join at the few tackle shops listed, even if you only fished it three times a year still cheaper than a couple of trips to a commy
