Can't keep away from the rivers even though they're closed at the moment. Been walking up in the dales looking for waterfalls which are one of my favourite subjects to photograph. These 3 are from Gibson's Cave on Bowlees Beck which is a small tributary of The Tees situated above Middleton-in-Teesdale just before High Force. Got there early one morning before the sun got high and before anyone else got there. This one's the main fall. Wader's on from a bit further downstream. Just as the sun broke through the trees. Lovely area to explore with a camera instead of a rod at the moment .

Fab pictures there.
Love doing waterfall pics with slower shutter speed. What camera do you have?

It's a Canon 600D,Linz, with a Sigma lens. Got a 350D aswell which I put a Canon 18-55 lens on depending on what I'm photographing. Been fancying upgrading to a full frame but daren't spend a lot of money in case I drop it in the water, don't relish telling the wife my camera's at the bottom of the Tees! Always shoot raw with Lightroom and Photoshop to do the edits.

I got a DSLR last year, a Samsung NX1000. Don't take it out too much..too scared in case I drop the bloody thing. I do like playing about with different settings though.
Keep meaning to go on actual photography course to learn how to use it properly along with Lightroom and Photoshop. I tried using both softwares but just got confused!

It was a bit like learning to drive,Linz. Seems so daunting at first, all the modes and different settings, but eventually it falls into place and it becomes second nature. Each to their own but I use nothing but manual mode and manual focus, gives me total control over the shot so I can get exactly what I want. There's loads of good stuff on youtube if you have the time. Forget Photoshop for a while and stick with Lightroom,it's non destructive so you can practice without harming your original image. You can download some of the older versions for free aswell to get used to it. Having said all that there's no substitute for getting out and taking loads of photos, please use Raw though because the results will be so much better. Don't know where you live but if it's Teesside have a ride down to Paddy's Cove at Redcar sometime, dead interesting and some great photo opportunities.

Yeah,Cheesey, always use a tripod for a slow shutter speed shot to keep it sharp especially for flowing water. Used a grad.filter for the 2 bottom ones to stop the sky from blowing out. The one in the cave was a bit more complicated. The water was very bright but the areas around the cliffs were almost completely dark so I ended up taking 3 shots to cover the full tonal range and stitched them together to get the final image, easy to do with the right software.

Cheers Graeme.
I use manual and auto depending on what I am doing. Taking a daft photo of the kids running about, then I'll use auto but getting a nice still photo of them, I'll use manual and play with the settings.
I'll have another look at Lightroom and check out Youtube/interweb for guides on using it.
Paddy's cove? Is that up near South Gare/Blast Furnace?
