Sorry get you and john broomfield mixed up.. I'm not getting caught up in it, just winds me up when I'm editing stockton bailiffs posts that have named stocktons water and posted a picture of the stretch.. Like I said before I ain't arsed if people post names/pics etc I just edited posts to help members out, I'm a caring mod. I'm not even in stockton, dropped it cause of the silly rules same as a couple more members on here I understand you worry about poachers but maybe if people posted pics you would get more members and more people fishing stretches which would help increase bailiff numbers and also deter poachers from fishing these places. Seems to me the clubs living in the past and the Internet could be used as a tool to help the club but it's not being utilised in the correct way. I know stocktons committee members are mainly getting on and are prob scared of the Internet. But when your naming venues and posting pics on your own site the club wanna practise what they preach. Our forum is for discussions, and I'm only having my say, so no need to get narkey, personally I would prefer you to leave the site as I don't agree with spying but mick seems to want you to stay so I can't over rule him, he's the boss It's nothing personal cause when I met u u seemed a top bloke, but I'm looking after my members interests, same as u do with stockton

Hi Doug. You'll see from the posts that we're just a bunch of friendly lads who come on here to discuss our angling experiences. There's no keyboard warriors and nobody trying to be clever,if there was then Mick and Ronny would remove them I'm sure. The forum works very well,we don't need to be told what we can and can't say. I seem to recall that when you joined the forum it was to become an active member and not as a "spy",your word not mine. That's fine by me but all of your posts seem to be about Stockton and it's rules and nothing fishing related. I'm a member of Stockton and fish their waters regularly but with all due respect I think the club needs to realise that this is 2014. The internet is here to stay and anglers will discuss where they've been what they've caught whether you like it or not. Talk of bans and expulsion will get the club nowhere,in my opinion you need to embrace change and use forums like this to promote the club in a positive manner and stop this negative standpoint. I assume the club is a democracy where topics like this can be openly discussed or maybe this is an item for the next AGM. Just my thoughts .

Hi Doug, Firstly thankyou for taking the time out to reply to peoples comments and concerns, its great news that you are looking at the possibility of making some changes, i hope you understand that none of the comments are aimed solely at yourself, but obviously because of who you are you are going to receive a certain amount of chest poking im sure you are now aware that there is a bit of ill feeling over this ruling and this is not just from the people who have posted, as some members are fearful to air their views because of what may be the consequences, i haven't removed anybodys comments be they good or bad as i feel this would serve no purpose and not give a true picture of peoples opinions, once again Thanks for the replys

I assume the club is a democracy where topics like this can be openly discussed or maybe this is an item for the next AGM. Just my thoughts . Hi Graeme I like the way members conduct themselves here. I think it’s a well moderated forum. I don’t take anybody’s comments personally. The subject of Stockton Angling rules has arisen only because the publicity rule and the potential consequences of breaking it have become an issue lately. I don’t want to be involved. I’ve got better things to do. But how would you feel if I ignored posts once the subject had been raised. I agree with most of what you say but not the ‘Spy’ reference or the description ‘negative standpoint’. Everybody on here should know by now that I am a director of Stockton Angling Ltd. I don’t think I’ve tried to hide it. The word ‘spy’ doesn’t fit. I’m the equivalent of a British spy walking around the Kremlin dressed in a Union Jack suit and singing ‘Rule Britannia’. Nobody is furtively trawling the internet searching for errant Stockton Angling members to shoot. I had two reasons for joining this forum. Firstly I’m a Teesside angler and like to keep in touch with what’s going on locally. Secondly, it can only be good to improve the communication between Stockton Angling and its members and the Angling Club section may be a good place to start doing this. For instance, I organise and manage the club work parties and I would like to publish the dates and venues here. Unfortunately I haven’t had time to start the second one as I’ve got bogged down in this. The club’s not trying to tell anglers what they can and can’t say and nobody’s trying to stop anglers discussing where they’ve been or what they’ve caught. Anglers talking to their mates will never have a detrimental effect on fisheries. The Stockton Angling rule is a ban on publishing details of catches related to venues on their waters in media that anybody can access. You can publish pictures of your catch anywhere you want as long as you don’t say specifically where you caught it. Whether we agree with the rule or not we all have to abide by it. To help members know more clearly where they stand regarding publicity I am trying to develop clarification of what is OK and what isn’t. I am now retired but I worked in advertising, marketing and communications for nearly 50 years. I can’t emphasise strongly enough how beneficial increased publicity of angling activity on Stockton Angling’s waters would be in deterring illegal fishing. However, we need to ensure that it’s done within the rules. Although I don’t like being involved in this kind of exchange of views it’s positive, not negative. These discussions make me aware of angler’s views that would have escaped me were I not a member of this forum and allow me to communicate them to the club where appropriate. However, on this forum you are discussing issues informally with Doug Davison, not Stockton Angling Ltd. To ensure proper consideration of any complaints, points of view, reports of poaching etc. you should communicate direct with the club on stocktonanglers@clannet.co.uk

I'd rather hear member's true feelings than bull**it. I don't mind a few snipes either. I've got the message about the lack of clarity surrounding the rule at issue but it's a difficult one. I've spent an hour or two recently looking at how other clubs handle publicity in an attempt to find a solution. I've just replied to Graeme with a longer post.

Yep i've seen it Doug, and the above was my reply, i can imagine its difficult to try and change whats been set in stone for so long,it may well have been a appropriate rule in the past, and possibly some elements of it still are, but just because a rule is there doesn't always make it right??

Doug, that reply was what we wanted to hear, I do hope that you and john will continue with the forum and if you do happen to see a member accidentally post a location or a picture you don't agree with you would kindly tell the person or let me or mick know. We do try our best to eradicate the accidents but from time to time we have/and may miss them.
I won't lie it got my back up when I heard mick had been reported to the club, I know you & john swear it wasn't you but with u just signing up u can see where people are coming from with all this?
Anyway let's put the matter to bed and move on..
So about this one rod rule? Na I'm kidding lol

Thanks for the reply,Doug. So long as we get some clarification about what the club finds acceptable that's fine with me. I look forward to your contributions to the forum and having someone who represents Stockton can only be good for the members.

Stockton Angling have an AGM, normally in February. Any A section member can attend and also submit a motion to the board of directors. The last time I attended, two years ago, there was a motion to overturn the one rod rule which was strongly debated. Unfortunately the motion was not passed but that is how democracy works. Not sure about the time scale to submit a motion for the AGM but the opportunity is available. Ronny, you are correct about the board of directors age and I'm sure most of them would gladly had their roles over to younger members if any were actually interested in taking them on. Most of the roles are time consuming and I take my hat off to Doug & John for taking on bailiffing duties and John Steel does a hell of a job as a club finance secretary as most of us know you can always drop in to renew your membership. The club, like many, suffers from a lot of members joining but not really putting anything back into the club. I have only atnede a few work parties each season and tend to be just about the youngest there, at 50. Doug has come on to try and make sure none of the members on here breach the rules and get themselves into trouble which I applaud. I think we are better informed of what is allowed within the club rules and through this forum perhaps we may be able to change the views of the club through the right process. Now someone give me a hug
