There's been some good catches since the season started even though the rivers are running very low and clear so I thought I'd ask for everyone's thoughts on tactics and your general favoured approach for what seems our favourite target, the chub or even a barbel if we're lucky.
I don't mean pegs and secret baits just your bog standard methods that you are confident with and generally work.
The reason for my post is that my usual approach is to rove around fishing maybe 10 pegs and no more than half an hour in each peg but I've noticed on most of the threads so far that most of you seem to choose 1 peg and stick with it,I'm assuming constantly feeding until the fish turn up.
It's an idea I might try next time out.
Summer baitwise I usually go for 2 baits and prefer meat and halibuts for no other reason than I've caught plenty of chub on both so I'm confident with them but I'm happy to try any of your suggestions.
I usually start by baiting a couple of spots with small halibuts and a few pieces of meat and "leapfrog" the river back towards the car.
Rigwise I use nothing more complicated than a free running bomb if it's low and clear and a feeder full of pellets/meat and halibut groundbait if there's a bit in.
Usually a 6lb hair rig hooklength and generally a 1.5lb Avon rod,I don't see any need for a quivertip when a bite usually means the rod being pulled in.
Sometimes I feel like I haven't made the most of my peg so recently I've been "upstreaming" especially to snags and had some success so I've stuck with it.
So that's it in a nutshell, basic and simple, the only thing I can't change is that little bit of luck we all need .
All tips welcome!
