(The reason I'm banned stems from an incident when my now 8 year old put a couple of maggots in the tomato ketchup and closed the lid)

Ha ha class.
I've only got a freezer for deadbaits but I use a cool box for maggots and casters and just swap the ice paks over everyday, it's a bit of a pain in the arse but they keep for a while.

The prep continued. I find pole wonders as excellent holders for river rigs. You can spend time at home getting the shotting capacity and spacing spot on and use floats suitable for different conditions. It's then just a simple loop to loop attachment and you slide your float up.

usually take a few maggs with me,but last few seasons havnt botherd.cracking bait but rate the caster for bules and chebs over maggot.had 2 pints anyways but grabbed another 3 pints from dales.
used the pole winder for my stick riggs many years ago jim its a simple solution to speed on the bank when thoughs situ's change.ive decided against the stick tomorrow and going all out for a bule,if chub take a fancy all well and gd.the stretch ive chosen is a dedicated bules run so hopefully be into one or two fish early on with a bitt of luck.
went for a recci last night and spotted around 7 fish but to be honest they looked as if they were still spawning.the water was electric come 9 last nite and the fish were topping and splashing all over.stuck 2 kilo of party mix in whilst I was there so only time will tell how it fairs.just thought I may be able to get them switched on before the big day.
glugged some pellet and meat and a few boilies,so ile place a bait out without feeding anything at first on the strait bomb and see if theres any interest.dnt want to drop bait on top of feeding fish can be the kiss of death.
watching the clock tick away as we speak.
gd luck to all my fellow anglers, even if we dnt catch, i can see some grt reports coming up.
tight lines lads.

another tipp for you lads on the stick.extend your bottom rubber on your float and allow it to over hang the bottom of your float by 4-5mm.helps when your bumping fish and helps when striking at range.i was puzzled myself but it was shown to me by a master of the swale and he was one hell of an angler.i was 7 when he showed me it, and i stick to it still to this day.
its something to try but worth a shot you can always go back to your own tried and tested methods.works grt when your fishing larger floats such as chubbers and avons
the method behind it was simple once explained.if you look at were most place there bottom rubber you have a few mill below that rubber so when striking your not pulling the float directly from the bottom which can sometimes obstruct the strike.the method above you get a cleaner more streamlined strike and it also helps towards float presentation.

if your equipped with waders and the waters clear try your usual method and then switch to the above so you can see the rig working.you'll be surprised the difference it makes when trotting through.if like myself and jim you like the pin it can make a world of difference to the amount of fish you lose.we all get thoughs times when we cant just put our finger on it why we are missing bites, this was the case with me when I fished my first swale match aged 7.just that small change made fishing easier and helped me to a section win the match after.
I was missing bites which I knew were chub and couldn't put my finger on it.norman wickman is the guy im talking about some may know him as the secretary of preston park angling club and another guy called jimmy ranks a swale master in his time.he fished alongside the barnsly black brigade and new his stuff.
maybe if I had known this small technical change at the beginning of the match I may have won it but unfortunately I missed out by 5lb 4oz to come 5th and I missed around 10 bites of gd fish or bumped them.try holding back the picture will become clearer when you do this against the flow from traditional rubber above the base.
