Ok lads, looking for everyone's opinion on this fish. I know that one of angling's biggest debates is the question of genuine crucian carp and I caught this fish this morning weighing 3lb 2oz. Looking on the internet it seems that a specimen crucian is generally agreed to be 3lb and this is the biggest I've ever caught. Caught it on pole fished meat and it fought with that jagged pull that crucian's have and, although you can't see it in the photo, the underside was the lovely orange/yellow you would expect. I know larger fish have a more browny colour as this fish has and I'm sure it's not any form of goldfish because of the lack of a fantail. Here it is. In my view it's a genuine crucian but I'd welcome other views just for the crack

Did you take a close up of the fish ?
You can do a scale count, which would give you a better idea one way or another.
Nice fish though.

The above pic is a brown goldfish, same fins as your fish mate, id say a hybrid but as already said I'm clueless with crusians

Tails shorter on that one though and eyes seem a different colour on crusians (not that u can judge on the eyes alone)

Mmm. Now I've compared photos, especially the tail area,I'm beginning to think that it's some form of hybrid. Oh well ,still a nice fish though
