I had a quick recce on a still water yesterday afternoon, unfortunately the place had been hit by otters. I have seen the remains of the odd fish along the river banks but nothing like this. There was a double figure pike and over 10 bream along a short section of bank. I'm sure I could of found a lot more if I had a search in the reeds etc... I've posted a few photos on my blog - northeastpiker.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/otter-devastation.html
I also had a quick visit to nearby river which was stuffed with massive chub

th'll have the fishery wiped out in no time, with the otters and the black death its inevitable.pays getting a fence up in the long run.afterall fish aint cheap when they get to a decent size.problems all over the place with the buggers.had a walk along the swale last wk and seen a few chub with belly's out, pretty recent too they were although this time of yr last year I discovered more.

that's a real shame, would be more acceptable if they ate the full bloody fish? but they don't is the damage to the pike otter damage? or could/would a cormorant tackle a pike of that size?

I was on the understanding otters ate all the fish they get where mink kill for fun, or just eat the neck area?

Big old dog otter that beast at Morton. A mate of mine was fishing Newsham Grange one day and had an otter come really close to him growling and snarling, he said it was 6ft nose to tail and he was bricking it.

I've had one snarl at me before. Not sure it was 6 ft like!
