Fly and worm only, no maggot! I checked it out last year! Lovely little river to trot a worm tip down, few nice little glides

give the pool a try aswell at lealholm, below the stepping stones to bridge is free fishing, that pool is a cracking holding spot for the migratory's.
also some free water at glaisdale, above bridge to 300 yds upstream, cracking fly water jim.

dont know what the otter population has done, been a long time since i fished the esk.last time i was along there i seen a lot of otter tracks.got talking to some locals and they said they sit in there back gardens watching them,so what impact its had i wouldnt know.
was a cracking river though for the runs of sea trout yrs back, most if not all of the trophy matches we fished would be won by a sea trout or 4.my biggest of there was around 5lb fishing into dusk on a freelined worm when i was about 13,seen a mate hit and lose a really big fish ide estimate to be a low double.
never seen anyone fish that beat like norman wickman,he knew his stuff on there and the fly fishing to watch was amazing, picked a lot up of norm who became a very gd family friend, but a master angler.
