At what size fish does it become necessary to start using a unhooking mat thanks

Theres probably a million answers to that Neil, but as a rough guide anything you cant comfortably hold in your hands or net to unhook,if you dont have one the best thing to do although not ideal is to find some soft long grass to lay the fish on, but check the ground first to make sure theres no sticks, glass or anything else that might poke into and damage the fish

Pike always need one
Roach/bream/small carp don't tend to need one.. I think when u can't unhook then in the landing net then you need one
But also if you catch chub/barbel/decent carp etc deffo worth getting one as you will need one for a photo, either to rest it on or to hold it over

Yeah best way mate, doesn't need to be out flash.. I use an NGT one for my winter fishing, think it cost me £5 lol.. Where I use a korum roll-a-mat in summer
