Ditto Tom, hope it's a good one. I don't usually make resolutions but I have this year which is to do more float fishing, both heavy and light.

Good luck with the float fishing. Did you manage a barbel last year?

Hi Tom Not from our club stretch, three good takes though best one was the one I actually lost at the net. Still have nightmares over that one,😭
My friend caught a nice one though. I thankfully had a couple from the Swale and a few on the Trent.

Well done on the ones you netted Kev. I know how you feel about the ones that got away! I lost a big pike on the last day of last years fishing. I just couldn’t stop it and that was using powerful pike gear. Bri C. was a star, helping me move along the bank, cutting twigs etc out of my way, but it just wasn’t meant to be. I have nightmares too, almost on a daily basis…. OMG!!! It was big! Still that’s the sort of thing that keeps us going. Good luck for this season,
PS I’ve been trying my hand at trotting for grayling, nothing fantastic but I did manage an out of season brownie at around 2.5 - 3lb .

Excellent Tom re Grayling, I really enjoy fishing for them, hoping to get back out ASAP for them.
Not sure how I'm approaching my fishing from now until the end of the season, must admit I do fancy trotting an avon float for chub.

I know that you said don’t wait for perfect, but flipping heck that was definitely pushing it. However you did prove a point. Absolutely agree, that it’s better than working. Well done on avoiding the blank.

I know that you said don’t wait for perfect, but flipping heck that was definitely pushing it. However you did prove a point. Absolutely agree, that it’s better than working. Well done on avoiding the blank. It was about 1.5m and dropping when I fished today. I had a fair idea that I'd struggle. I was just sick of not getting out since the 27th. I've been catching well with around 1.2m showing but the extra 30cm/foot was just too much. I reckon that catching more might still be possible, if you can find them. Unfortunately, I simply can't think where they might end up on this stretch with the river as high. If they don't release any water from the reservoirs, it might be right tomorrow. Failing that, it should be there or thereabout on Friday.
