I had a walk down to Girsby Bridge at Sockburn today. For the first time I noticed a Middlesbrough Angling Club sign on the bank opposite the ATDAC stretch, immediately downriver of the bridge.
Does anyone know when MAC got hold of this stretch? I thought it wasn't open to any anglers previously.
There used to be access to pegs 1-33 on that side of the river until a few years ago, but that stretch starts well below Girsby bridge. I wonder what the boundaries of MAC's fishing are?

I'm a bit surprised to hear that anyone has it. Last I heard, the landowner had sworn blind that no angling club would get access ever again. However, there's a chance I'm confusing this stretch with the one just upstream and opposite Sockburn Hall. The MAC website doesn't appear to list any water at Girsby (or further upstream) on the Yorkshire bank. Whether it's current is another matter entirely. However, there are updates and bews reports from as recently as Sept '23. www.middlesbroughanglingclub.co.uk/the-lakes/

That's what I thought too, about anglers never darkening his doors again.
Maybe it was temporary access for a one off match or something. Or perhaps it's just happened.
All will be revealed in due course, no doubt.

Just looked again at the Middlesbrough AC website and the new stretch is included in their latest news update for September 23.
They've acquired a stretch called The Ashes which runs a field length downstream from Girsby bridge and about the same distance upstream. It's all opposite current ATDAC water, as far as I can see.
I must say, the access and parking info contained in the newsletter is exemplary.
Good luck to MAC members fishing that stretch.
