I received an email from Stockton Angling, that stated there is a planning application for a chicken egg production farm in the banks of our river Tees, which intends to discharge its Pollution into our precious river.
Obviously, this will not have a positive effect.
Stockton angling urges all individual members to comment on/object to the application themselves. Remember, the more objections the better. It is quite easy to lodge an objection.

Search for the application using reference DM/23/02467/FPA
Lodge a comment.
Below you will find some wording that you might like to consider for your own application.
Please note that objections need to be lodged by 18th October, 2023 so there is not much time.

Possible wording. Feel free to copy all or part of it or write your own.
I strongly object to this application.
As an angler that fishes the Tees I consider this an unsustainable development in relation to the potential environmental impact from run-off of water highly polluted with phosphates, nitrates and ammonia.
It is well known that run-off from intensive chicken farming operations is deleterious to the health of a river ecosystem. At present the Tees is a relatively unpolluted and biodiverse catchment. The river Wye has been hugely affected by the proliferation of intensive poultry operations.
The run-off of nutrients from chicken excrement from these farms is believed to have led to a major increase of phosphate levels in the river catchment in the past six years, causing the river Wye to now exceed permitted levels of phosphates under the European Union (EU) Habitats Directive.
From "The poultry farms turning the Wye into a “wildlife death trap” - River Action UK"
This application will certainly adversely affect the water quality of the Tees and the drainage channel that the application intends to discharge into.
Section 4.3.5 of the Flood Risk and Drainage Assessment document states:
'It is therefore proposed that the surface water run-off from the development is discharged to this watercourse for which formal consent will be required from the Drainage and Coastal protection Section of Durham County Council.'
I strongly object to this possibility and cannot see any reason why this consent should be permitted in its present form.
The Tees adjacent and downstream of this point will be polluted by this proposal and may adversely affect the health of the wildlife in and around the river. It will also pose a health hazard to people who bathe in the river and come into contact with it - anglers and canoeists being two examples.
I propose that this application be rejected
