It is with great sadness I thought I would let you know that sadly John Broomfield passed away at the end of January. I have known John for about 15 years and met him through a passion for barbel fishing. He was a kind and generous man, didn’t suffer fools, who was always will to help with advice. I had not seen him recently but always enjoyed his posts and envied the amount he got out. He had requested a private funeral so can’t even pay our last respects
RIP John, I for one will miss you mate

Cheers for the heads up Stu
RIP John
for those not sure John was Jacques on here, a fine all round river angler and a decent bloke, bought my gardner net handle off him and its had plenty of fish on the bank since i'll tip my hat to John next time I'm out , he did say he was struggling lately health wise but its still a shock and surprise

Really, Really sad to hear this, our treasurer mention the sad news a couple of weeks back but sadly I did not recognise John's surname, really sound bloke, spoke to him a few times on the banks and in messages on here. He's reports where excellent.
Condolences to John's family, hopefully he's now pulling out those fish in St Peters lake up above.

I met John a few times and knew his forum name. I wouldn't have connected his surname though. However, I've got a feeling that I've seen and heard John's full name on plenty of occasions, though I don't really know why.
My sympathies to his nearest and dearest and those that knew him properly.

Very sad news. Bumped into him on many occasions (he always seemed to be out on the bank) in the 15 or so years I knew him, and he was kind enough to reach out to me when I needed assistance previously. Always a good talker, full of opinion and energy. RIP John

I'm very sorry to hear that. Like some others on hear I really just knew him through his posts, but did meet him on the riverbank once and we had a nice chat. He seemed very engaging, and certainly knew his fishing. He was one of the people I learnt most from when I first started coming onto this noticeboard.
Thank you for putting this sad news up on the forum.

So sorry to hear about John's passing. He always posted helpful tips about his exploits and came across as passionate and enthusiastic regarding fishing.
