This reservoir was built with the advent of the Stockton and Darlington railway which finished at Shildon. Locomotives couldn't pull the laden coal trucks up the Brusselton incline so an engine was used to winch them up and down into Shildon. All of this has long since been demolished but the engineman's cottages still remain and the reservoir is now a lovely little fishery owned by New Shildon AC. I planned to fish it today so went over a couple of times but there was nobody fishing, had the camera so took this shot of the sun setting over the water and cottages. Bit of history amongst the fishing .
