Lockwood was a cracking fishery trout wise can fully understand why Gordon jacked it in from the thefts and poaching there's a very good head of roach in it I got a shock from the results of a match not so long back 33 lb on a 3m whip think it would make a mint slab fishery would be similar to Castle Howard most reservoirs now are stacked full of carp think nwl could be onto a good thing if it takes off properly

They said the same thing about aeroplanes and now look how theyre doing
Personally I'd welcome a real good top quality mixed well run coarse fishery and wont miss the old style trout fishery one little bit

I struggle to think of Lockwood as a successful coarse fishery. I used to be a regular trout fly fisherman there back in the Northumbrian water era when it was still a working reservoir. I have a very good memory of the water as it used to draw down in level over a dry summer. Back then the weed beds would become dry land thus keeping the weed levels in check. So looking at the moor bank on the Whitby side. Gently sloping and shallow for a long way out. The Guisborugh bank shallow for a long way out from the dam and deeper close towards the Caselton end. Wind mainly from the south west so making the dam wall area uncomfortable when its cold. Have fished it a couple of time during the last winter and was surprised as to how weedy it was close in off the dam wall. So it must be even weedier during summer. Thus making bringing a decent fish to the net off the dam difficult. Ok with a decent head of bream and it would take thousands to ensure anglers had a chance. We all know how they can be in a water in numbers and never get caught, back in the Stokesly AC days fishing the Tontine lake I caught some huge bream when after carp. Set up to fish for them not a touch. For sure a pleasant scenic easy place too get to and it will draw the non club angler. But with all venues the results will decide its success.

Was pretty weedy close in on the dam wall near lodge when I fished it over the years and odd clumps along Guisborough side bank I think only a few pegs will produce aswell can't see the far bank doing much and main thing people plodging through the boggy grass that side with coarse gear was bad enough sometimes with the waders on

Very weedy of every bank accept point ,weed tends to mark where water deepens off slightly .
My m8 was up other day lived place but fishing shit ,his best fish an overwintered rainbow which he returned .
Other than that got covered in slop and mud ,caught four tiny roach and one perch .
He won't be back he said unless they summat worth catching .
My opinions are common sense ,not related to dissapointment it's gone as a trout fishery ,some venues just don't adapt to change and I'd bet my life Lockwood pretty much remains as it is ,and won't be a premier northern fishery .

marske rezi was the same, you could see the bream like bin lids but put a bait at them you wouldnt get a sniff. now the water has changed, introduction of more fish, pasty's skimmers it changed there feeding habbits and come out regular.i had 4 inone day last yr jet black they were. im with mark, reckon the bream fishing could be exceptional.a lot dnt like them we all know that, but were can you find a top bream water in these parts now with consistant sport without having to travel silly miles, the tees is hit and miss.....and as for the poaching side of it,if i were a poacher i think i would rather hit the trout than a bream or roach.

Lol lads this thread exhausted now , we will see , i hope it does work il go if it succeeds especially for perch, tench, and chub , I'd it goes bream and carp il give it a miss , leets just see .
Whittle deen was rumoured the same years ago ,and it gets about 50 anglers a year trying to catch roach at £7 a go , bet the people that go there will be pissed if they stock Lockwood up with other stuff.
And poaching basha i don't mean to eat ,though there's plenty of strange types now that would happily eat course fish given no risk access , i meant thefts to stick other places at a cheaper price .
Let's just see , come June 16th no one will care Inc me anyways

the poaching part andy, the taking of fish to sell on is on all waters. hemo lake had it 2/3 seasons a go,albert park had it, as well of tons of waters i could mention.its the taking and eating that worries me more than the poaching to supply other waters i know which would out weigh the other and it wouldnt be poaching to sell, maybe a few yrs ago.for me im gonna think positive and put the poaching to one side or every water new or old wouldnt be worth fishing if we thought they was gonna get snaffled everytme.semerwater seems to do ok and you cant get anymore out the way than that.still think lockwood was more of a target been a trout fishery and reckon it wnt be as bad as you think........bet theres people poaching albert park as we speak lol.
