dont always reach for a plummet every time you plumb up, i always start plumming up on the pole with a plummet then once ive got a rough idea of the depth, i switch to a AAA shot, youd be suprised how much a plummet sinks in to the bottom, mainly due to silt, giving you a false reading of the depth, you can get it absolutely spot on this way, perfect when your pellet fishing and you need the pellet just kissing the deck. i used to plumb up on the waggler with a plummet all the time but verry rarely do now unless im fishing really heavy wagglers, an SSG is much better, causes less disturbance in the swim and again, gives a better reading of the true depth.

I got called crazy for doing this before a match saying the plummet does the job! Load of tosh for getting the accurate depth like you say kissing the deck Saying that I did win the match and the auld bugger shut up and didn't say a word!

nice 1 mate, soon shut him up then.lol its crazy how important it is to be fishing dead depth with pellet, and other baits infact, you know when youve got it bang on coz every bites just a little dink and there on, its as if your seeing the bite just as there sucking the pellet in, how many times have you been fishing with a certain rig and absolutely emptying it, you get trashed and lose the rig so have you set a new rig up to find your not catching half as much, you realise your not fishing dead depth, adjust the rig a few milimetres and your straight back in to em, its madness, but one of the most important things in fisghig, especially pole fishing, is getting that depth right, something alot of people get wrong i think.

Exactly mate and find what the fish want it at weather it's kissing or an inch or 2 over or just off the bottom Personally I always start just off bottom at the start of a match too see if there's anything just off But if I don't start catching ill start moving it about and trying to find how the fish want it that's if there's fish there obviously How many times have you missed continuous bites and then moved your float shallower or deeper and started connecting with the fish Like I say all the time mate the day you suss any kind off fishing you might as well pack in

Crackin tip Jord and something i do myself, Just to add on the waggler you see people trying to plumb up when theyve already shot the waggler, don't do this just lock the float with float stops or no8s, with no other shot on the line at all, you will then see the float either lie flat (over depth) stick out the water 5 inches (on bottom but needs adjusting 5inch) just see the tip (bang on) or it will sink away( not deep enough) once you've found the depth you can then shot the float correctly, this is more for the benefit of newcomers than you two lads lol

no, thats spot on that marte, something i havent done to be honest, mainly coz i havent done a whole lot of conventional waggler fishing, only fish it in the winter really with really light insert wagglers, mainly pellet waggler for me where i can so obviously plumbing the depths a waste of time, im gona practice the slider next year down the resi in the deep pegs, think it would work spot on for them skimmers.

its something ive never tried mate, always opted for the feeder or pole in really deep pegs, 10ft+ but i am gona learn how to fish it coz there will be them days where they aint having it on the feeder, its too windy for a pole and the slider might just work.

sliders all we ever used when fishing the Shannon we outfished the feeder majority of the time, unless it was flooded then we'd go on the bottom.
cracking method on the tees,as is a feeder set up on the pole with a paternoster link,gd for roach in winter when there's no flow.

i can imagine mate, conditions would have to be spot on tho with the flow and that, its a method that will take a bit of practice tho i bet, will just have to leave the pole and tip rods at home then ill have no choice but to fish it.

i learnt how to fish it on a stillwater one day and i fished a match on the river and i was doing s**t so my last resort was the slider luckily it paid off and caught me a few fish did 8lb of skimmers in an hour so its a killer method if conditions are perfect for it
