Do I need a rod licence?
Anyone aged 12 or over who wishes to fish for salmon, trout, freshwater fish, smelt and eels in England, Wales or the Border Esk region of Scotland requires a rod licence to fish with a rod and line. If you are fishing for coarse fish with three or four rods (four is the maximum allowed) then you need two licences.
Licence duties and conditions
Licence duties and conditions are set for 2012 and 2013, but we are currently considering our licence duty proposals for 2014 and beyond. We will be reviewing certain aspects of the licensing system to give better service to rod licence payers.
We will be addressing the number of rods allowed per licence as part of this review. Options for change are currently being considered, but there is strong support to allow three rods on one licence for stillwater fishermen. We will be consulting on firm proposals early next year. The cost for the extra licence would depend on the number of anglers involved, but would probably not exceed £10.

ide say there should be a 3 rod rule only on carp only water myself and a separate licence for such venues.anywere were there is mixed species including carp depending on the size of the venue should be one rod only.cant stand fishing mixed venues when you got guys fishing 3 rods spanning half the lake.licence fee's is gd value in my book, stick with the one licence two rod setup.a separate licence fee for lads fishing only for carp with 3 rods.they have to have two licences at present, reduce the second licence by half seems fair.aint many fish more than 3 rods.

Why not be like in Scotland NO LICENSE FEE AND BETTER FISHING. Why should anglers be THE ONLY COUNTRY SIDE USERS WHO HAVE TO PAY?
