I'm pretty sure there's a free bit. Or maybe it's a bit that guys fished for free?
Lovely beck, many years ago I was in thhirsk ac who had a fair amount and I fished it a few times for grayling and chublets

Your right Ste ive fished it a couple of times, Jims Correct Thirsk do have the rights to a lot of it, but when i went i fished above the weir pool opposite the church, i just fished the feeder and had trout and grayling and a few small chub, if you fish the stick at the pool and below to the road bridge you will get most species, the stretch i fished is i believe free because i asked a bobby before i started fishing and he told me as far as he was aware that bit was a free stretch, i wasnt bothered by anyone and i parked outside a garage which i was told is now vacant, but that was last winter, normal baits all work well, the best way to get to the stretch i fished is to come off the 19 at thirsk then at the roundabout at the bottom of the slip rd go straight over for Northallerton after 50yds or so take the first left this rd runs along the side of cod beck and you will after 5mins pass the church on your right, park where you can, walk across the playing field and cross the small foot bridge at the weir pool fish any where along there either up or down stream to the rd bridge, hope this helps mate
