Fished area of Swale never fished before and not renowned for barbel , fished a more mixed approach with gear I'd be confident would handle a decent fish but not too heavy
Caught several chublet and a perch ,then arround 9pm a gentle bite followed by an almighty run which in the lighter gear I had felt pushed to limit , anyways gradually got it back and was pleasantly surprised to have a barble in perfect condition arround 5lb , this tells me im really starting to read rivers well more than anything else , but what was most pleasing was the owls hooting , and a badger running across a field as I was walking back to car .

Very satisfying when a plan works out, well done Andy. The variety of bird life on the Swale is excellent, always turns up something interesting on every trip.

Nice to be different and go off the proven track and succeed. Well done.
Memo to self, must go back to the Swale on day.

I like the Swale but for some reason it attracts to many people I don't know why cause for me the Wharfe which seems lightly fished in comparison has a much better head of barbel and is a hybrid as it's got so much diverse environments one day you fishing in a sense cliff lined wood ,next day gravely featureless runs , I love the Wharfe it's a gem if u get to know it .
Oh and after all my talk about never seeing bivies there was three on a stretch of Swale yesterday which is why I went elsewhere
