When I looked this forum several years ago this forum was alive with people getting excited about the river season, now it's not just covid there's been a steady decline in posts over quite some time .
On personal level im really excited about start of new season especially after good dollop of rain recently , my gears packed in van ready to go and can't wait, I know people are having tough times but it just seems also there's loss of interest and enthusiasm for this great pursuit
I hope it picks up love the forum and all the crack about fishing , if anyone does have any plans share them and your opening day trips

Hi Andy, I don’t write posts very often, manly because I’m away from home a lot. However I am fanatical about my fishing in all its various forms. I was due to be home for opening day on the rivers and I was getting everything set to go, Ben before Covid struck. Now I’m offshore Brazil and plus the quarantine over hear I’ve still got until July 16th to set off home, then another 2-weeks quarantine before I can sprint to my car and race to the riverside... I cannot wait. But that only leaves me with 2-weeks fishing before I travel back to work and do it all over again. The lifestyle is my choice, but Covid has put a real damper on everything. This is a great forum with some wonderful characters, it’s one of the this that’s helping me get through this difficult time. So I thank you Andy for helping to keep the site going and I hope that everyone manages to enjoy our passion and write about. I will once I get home.

I aint been on for a while andy cos its been a proper c.nt of a year up to now, losing wifes father to covid april, then sitting it out not nowing if weve got it, me in and out of hosp not knowing what the hells going on with my cardio system, wife bessy mate just died, on 55th bd, lung cancer, never smoked, sporty out door life style, 2 tennents f.cked off with property gutted, hol cottage bookings all cancelled, some tenents cant pay their rent. Business taking a massive hit, I could go on, im not the only one, there will be thousands of people who are up against it. Im usualy half glass full attitude but im struggling with that right now, i was going to take the lad to the oakes then the weather said im not! Then all you get on tv is more shite, protesters screwing up the social distance rule etc when the majority of them dont know their history! Every nation who took control of another nation has used slave labour, pull the pyramids down, flatten rome and every city world wide then go to libya, albania, right now to stop trafficking people! Instead of vandalising churchils statue, if it wasnt for the likes of him there would be no freedom of speech, no blacks, gays, no rights TO protest etc etc it all boils my piss........ thats why ive not posted for a while. But will

Nothing changed for me,Andy. Still as keen as ever and I'm hoping to be out on opening day,be an afternoon job and probably on the Tees. I'll be out doing a recce. tomorrow to chop a bit of vegetation down and create myself some pegs and hope nobody gets there before me. As usual I'll be after chub and the only change from my winter tactics will be leaving the cheesepaste and steak at home and taking big lumps of meat, halibut pellets, and a few crab flavoured for a change wrapped in paste. I fish the rivers throughout the winter so always spend the summer months on stillwaters just enjoying watching a float and having a bit of fun then it's back to chub for the winter but this year's a bit different because of the Covid situation. Unfortunately a couple of my favourite venues are still closed and the others have been really busy with lads just happy to get out of the house as the lockdown started to ease, quite understandable but not really how I like to fish so I've decided to get back to the rivers and maybe return to stillwaters when things have improved. The forum usually goes quiet over the closed season but hopefully will pick up a bit from next week but I agree we seem a bit thin on the ground these days with good lads like Jim and Basha not being able to get out as much as they used to and others who are a bit more secretive about their catches and I don't blame them. Why should anyone put in a lot of time and effort walking banks and finding likely pegs then sharing the information with others who can't be bothered? The other more simple reason is that there's just not many river anglers like us who are happy to spend a long session and blank and still go home happy. I fished the Tees,Swale, and Wear almost every week throughout last winter and only saw 2 anglers so maybe getting a busy forum is asking a bit much,we'll just have to hope that we can all get through this, return to the riverbanks, and get posting . Still chub to be caught in summer.

ive just carry on even tho is been a bit of a wash out with covid and tossers on telly kicking off with out knowing there history, heres to the regiment.lol.but nothing has changed reguarding fishing had a few tench sessions with a few small ones in the net and a few blanks on shipton lake chasing the decent tench there but a hard water to crack but will get there hopfully its just the case of learning the water and what works.as for the rivers i will be on the tees chasing them bules in my private spot which i will have all too myself as everywhere else will be busy opening day crack off dawn, been clearing my swims out and nipped up today to check the condition after all this rain good levels and colourered hoplefully thin out nicley for tues.tight lines for opening day boys if your out.

Im convinced greame that the world is evolving into not a very good place to be , wars, terrorism, disease, social media , arseholes in charge of sorting it out .
To me fishing has never been more important to me than it is now , I just feel sorry for future generations , and thank God I was born in times where until my mid to late thirties the world was a great place to be in

Ready for the off - working until Friday so won’t be out until the weekend. Luring on the Tees Sat morning and barbelling on the Swale Sunday evening all being well. Can’t wait! it’s certainly been a strange few weeks. I did have a tench blank and have had a couple of trips on free stretches on a couple of rivers looking for trout. Had a nice one on my new light gear....best of luck to all 🎣

I'll start out in the next few days with light lure gear for perch, then chub and the odd pike come autumn and winter. Certainly has been a funny year so far, not one I'd want to go through again for sure.
Actually the first few times out will probably be mainly peg clearing, but that's just the way it is.
