Hi was wondering if anyone was a member of Durham angling club. All the post I’ve found on brasside are quite dated so wonder if it had improved? I fancied signing up but people I talked to didn’t seam to think it was very good still might sign up because they control quite a few stretches of the river near to where I live. Also is anyone clued up to where the free stretches are in Durham city? Thanks

Be someone on here who will likely know more from what u heard about brasside it's suffered to predation and some idiots , but if Durham's got local river access then won't hurt to join and try Stillwater's in river close season

Hi mate. I've been a member of Durham for years but never bothered with Brasside, there's plenty of other stillwaters around that I'd rather fish. I only fish the river stretches for chub and mainly during the winter months, too many dog walkers, canoes, and assorted other groups wandering about and just enjoying the lovely walks that Durham has. Not complaining about them,I just prefer the solitude of river fishing and don't enjoy seeing large numbers of people. I concentrate on the Shincliffe and Maiden Castle stretches, plenty of good chub but it's not easy,I'd recommend having a walk around and checking out the pegs. I don't know how you like to fish but if you want to go during the nice weather be prepared to bump into lots of game anglers who disappear as soon as the trout season finishes leaving a good couple of miles of river to the coarse angler. The rewards are definitely there but it takes a bit of effort and lots of enthusiasm to be successful. Good luck .

The free stretches are from the Sands area below Framwellgate bridge down to Kepier where the old Durham FA. Ferens Park used to be. As is usual in Durham the parking's a nightmare.
