Hi all,
I'm Gary from Boro, just getting back into course fishing, looking for a bit of advice on ultralight lure fishing for perch, ie day ticket venues and other waters.

Welcome along Gary, I do a bit of light lure fishing for perch with soft rubber jigs, but I tend to be on the rivers mainly, I have tried hemmo a few times without success but on the Tees around horseshoe bend just off thornaby rd (Thornaby) is free and plenty of decent perch around there

Cheers Mick, i've not been on the rivers fishing for donkey's mate, messed about on the Tees when i was a youngun, would be classed as poaching now lol.
I've heard lockwood beck has a decent head of perch now it's a course fishing venue, would they allow ultra light lure fishing up there.

I'm not sure tbh, I've had a few problems where club waters and others don't allow allow spinning and have thought jigging or drop shotting are the same as spinning so not allowed it, but most have allowed me to do it once I've explained what it is and no trebles are involved, I suppose you would have to give them a call and check, unless any lads on here can answer it

What I will say Gary, Is get the right gear. If your fishing rivers and anywhere that could hold pike you will need a wire trace and a net big enough to scoop them in. I wouldn't mess about with anything that isn't rubber meshed either.

Cheers Jimk2, i've got a couple setups mate, a Greys G-lite 6'6 spinning rod paired with a shimmy aernos 2500 and a 8'shaky ugly stik spinning rod paired with a abu cardinal sx 40 reel for bigger lures. I'll got a big landing net but i think it's a nylon net on it, I'll get a rubber landing net and a big unhooking matt. Thanks for the advice mate.

I've just rang Scaling dam and asked if UL lureing fishing and spinning is allowed at Lockwwod beck, was told now it's changed to a course fisherie all methods are allowed up there, buzzing lol.

Welcome along and good luck at Lockwood Beck - I had a go in the close season - but was constantly getting the jig heads weeded up and didn’t have any weedless set ups with me, it seemed a lot shallower than I was expecting - other than the dam wall end. Plenty of perch in the Tees - can be hard work at times but good sized fish in there to make the effort worthwhile.

Cheers Robin, thanks for the heads up about the best jigs at Lockwwod, with me been a newbie to UL lure fishing i'll prob's look at joining a club sometime so i can get out the rivers, i no Mick mentioned there a few free stretchs to go at on the Tees, just abit of a learning curve for me at the moment.

Hi Guys, Just started stocking up on a good selection of soft plastics ie grubs and worms, and a selection of jigheads for em. Plus a few cheap crank baits and wire traces. I already had a good selection of of mepps spinners in different sizes and weights. Just need a few more bits, a decent unhhooking mat and big rubber landing net, i should be all set up for my first UL lure fishing session up at Lockwood beck.
