recentely ive mentioned that ive been concentrating a lot with boilies for my chub and barbel and ive been having grt success. i dont buy them i make my own.i was experimenting with differant consistancies and flavourings and ive come up with a variety of baits for differant species.
thought i would explain the ingredients and give the people who dnt know how simple it is and how much money you can save.im finding now that i dnt use my boilie tray as much because im constantely finding that mishaped baits tend to bring me more success than a standard round boilie.
anyways here is the ingrediants and an explanation as to how i do it.like i say you dnt need a boilie tray for this but they are only cheap if you want to go get one.
ingredient. --------------
soya flour. semolina. eggs. flavourings are your choice, but a gd tipp is buy a bottle of smoothie if your a carp angler and want a sweet bait, but the choice is yours.not yet had a barbel on this one but plenty of chub and tench and obviousely carp.
the method. --------------
break two eggs into a bowl and add about half a bottle of the smoothie.not a huge bottle just one of the smaller bottles and stir in. add a 50/50 mix of the soya flour and semolina a little at a time whilst stiring gently. continue working the mix with your hand untill you produce a stiff paste.add more soya flour and semolina again 50/50 if you need it.
roll the paste into balls or any desired shape, nuggets watever. bring a pan of water to the boil, place the boilies in a strainer or collinder and place them in the boiling water for 3 minutes.
place the boilies after 3 minutes onto some double up'd kitchen roll to dry them off.they can be frozen untill you want them. the boilies can be refrozen after your seshion, but i wouldnt re freeze after a few times or they lose there value.
anyways if you do them let me know how you get on,ive got around 20 or so differant flavours now, sweet, spicey and all kinds. let me know if you find a perculiar flavour cos im always experimenting and looking for more.
enjoy chaps anyways if you have a go.
just to add to this thread if your mix is sticking to your hands, then more semolina/soya flower is needed.

Cheers mark,
I've been thinking about making some in small batches, I've only been using about 20/30 baits on each of my last barbel sessions so I won't need loads. Got a flavour in mind. I'll let you's know how I get on

Try adding protien powder, body builder stuff, mick prob has some,,,it help the fish digest the bait. Another tip I saw was to add liquid flavour to the bag then put in boiles before freezing. That way you can make a big batch of basic boilie and add flavour to small batches. Freezing them with the flavour in the bag makes the boilies soak it up..

not a bad site for info.
only thing is with it they are using the top boily brands when it comes to base mixes ect.for the amount I use its cheaper and I get a lot more baits for less.for me to use something like mainline etc and for the amount I use It would be easier just to go and buy a bag.
i was buying my ingrediants from Tesco my first lot anyway.soya flour was costing me around £3-£4 quid-semolina was around the same for a kilo and a half.ive found somewere that's a little cheaper now and have been searching online.i can now get 5 kilo of flour for £7 and fine ground semolina for a fiver same weight.
wouldn't worry about the base mix to much if the ingrediants are rite its fine.just fine tune your flavourings and just use a small amount of the base mix to a dab of flavouring until you get the consistency rite.keep a diary as too how much you are adding,so you know for nxt time.
nice tipp aswell mozz.
just doing mine for myself and cheapness and they are working without going down the expensive route of top name brands and silly prices.

mainline have your eyes out, defo no point buying a base mix but might be worth buying some of their attractant as you dont need much

all my additives come from my cuboard in the kitchen or a small bottle costing me 26p from a supermarket. most lads, not all must have the liquid additives we all bought from boyes, they work a treat. got some brasm-pinapple and some dendra flavouring aswell, now that's absolute rank, but its what ive been doing well on.
