Probably teaching you to suck eggs here, but when casting to islands or features, all to many times you see anglers try and get as close as possible on their first cast, inevitably ending up snagged in a bush or even on the island, best thing to do is cast short of the feature and clip up then recast, when the line hits the clip simply take the line out of the clip and peel off a foot or few inches depending how short of the feature you where then re clip, continue casting and re clipping until your as close as you want to be, hey presto no more casting into trees or reed beds on your first or second attempt.

What are your views on baitboats!?
There's a question that could cause a bit of controversy...

I don't mind them as long as they have the guards over the propellers, there deadly if u use them correctly

Not my opinion this...but there's a oft held view out there to say surely where you have a bait boat shipping out a bolt / hair rig which more or less guarantees a hook up, which you the lift into and land. Has some of the skill element of fishing gone in that situation?

Without a doubt mate, but there's places where u simply can't cast that far, and some places spoding can cause the fish to run a mile, just gotta be used sensible and in the correct situations

Aye true. I've also seen it used on venues to get a deadbait out pretty far (senerwater for instance), where trying to cast a deadbait that far is just not possible

can I just add that if you think there is a chance of a run, ie carp, then unclip after the cast and use the clip again, if wanting to change or check the bait/rig, before the retrieve.
